20 lbs (9kg) or under in weight – ¼ teaspoon. 20 (9kg) to 55 lbs (25kg) – ½ teaspoon. Over 55 lbs (25kg) – 1 teaspoon. Rapeseed Oil in a Dogs Diet
Rapeseed oil is added to a dog’s diet to promote consumption of essential fatty acids. This light and almost tasteless oil provides vital fatty acids that improve an animal’s coat and skin. Dogs do not require much oil in their diet but they do benefit from occasional additions particularly if their main diet consists of dry dog food. The oil is distributed evenly over your dog’s food.
Skin Problems For treatment of skin problems such as rashes, sores and eczema, supplement your dog’s diet with vitamin E. This vitamin occurs naturally in vegetable oils so the addition of rapeseed oil to the diet will help dogs with these conditions. Vegetable oil added to its diet will help relieve the symptoms from the inside out
External Application of Rapeseed Oil For conditions that require veterinary treatment such as fleas or certain types of mange, you can apply rapeseed oil to the affected areas of skin to provide relief from itching. As long as your vet has confirmed the condition is not contagious to humans, you can use your fingers to rub oil into the affected area. You will need to apply rapeseed oil to the area several times per day. Vegetable oil will soften the skin and add a coating to help prevent further damage to the skin if the dog continues to scratch.
